Flapjack Friday

Happy Friday!

My sister's here in Colorado. I love her and I'll be sharing our sister adventures next week.

Today, for those of you who are at work, you almost made it to the weekend. For those of you who are enjoying your summer off... well, it's Friday, your friends will be off soon. For those of you who work summer camp, time off is irrelevant, you know you love your job.

Just loving our job's here at camp this week... Flipping pancakes for Flapjack Friday.

I would have a picture, but it's really hard to take a picture of yourself while flipping a pancake...

Happy Friday. No matter what you have planned, just make it a good one!

Guessing Game

Sometimes life is a little surreal. Sometimes it's confusing. Sometimes it's comical. Finding out we were having a baby was all those things for us.

All started in April... I blogged as we went. Now I can finally share it all. I'm laughing as I re-read these. Maybe you'll laugh at us too. Here goes nothing...

April 4, 2013 4 Weeks 1 Day
One day late. I drove to the Walgreen's on my way home from work and bought a pack of three pregnancy tests. The lady at the checkout smiled at me like she was excited about something. Then I realized she thought I was pregnant... I tried to avoid her gaze and exited the store with my bag hidden under my arm. I got home and I had waited for hours to pee because they say you're supposed to take the test in the morning or at least 4 hours after you last peed. I had to go to the bathroom so badly.

Kyle laughed when I told him I took a pregnancy test already. He said, "only a day late and you're already taking a pregnancy test." It was negative. I laughed too.

April 6, 2013 4 Weeks 3 Days
What if the pregnancy test was negative on Thursday because it wasn't first thing in the morning? I had to recheck, and no big deal because I bought the test in a pack of three...

Negative again.

Had to check before I spent the day in paint fumes. Painted the living room Moonshine gray. Used No-VOC paint with low odor... just in case.

April 8, 2013 4 Weeks 5 Days
Today is my brother's birthday. We have people in town. We have meetings tonight and tomorrow to plan the summer at camp. Can't take a pregnancy test today... so I googled "no period negative test" and started to read all the crazy people who are doing more forum reading than pregnancy test taking. They are crazy. So I went to Web MD where they're at least experts. But not after googling all my crazy symptoms. Yep. Truth.

Made my way to an article on "Ammenohrea after the Pill." I am convinced this is what I have. They say you don't go to the doctor until at least 6 months of no period. I figure it'll be a couple of months or so. Should have read that article earlier. This baby thing may take longer than we thought.

April 13, 2013 5 Weeks 3 Days
I figure it's been about a week or so right? And the Web MD article said with this ammenorhea-thing you should check every once in a while to make sure you're not actually pregnant. And it's the weekend and I still have one pregnancy test left of my three-pack. So I scurried into the bathroom, test in hand, while my husband got some much needed sleep. Mine you it was like 6am.

Peed on the stick, waited the 2 minutes. And then I got confused. I think I saw a line that would make a plus sign. But maybe it was the glare on the applicator? The 'test line' was super dark and the 'are you pregnant line' was something I wasn't really sure I could even see.

I checked the instructions. They said "even if light... pregnant." Pretty sure I'm not pregnant.

April 14, 2013 5 Weeks 4 Days
So maybe the test I took yesterday morning was correct. Yesterday I spent a good amount of time with one of our friends who is also trying to get pregnant. We both knew each other "probably were trying by now" but we finally got that all out in the open. We laughed about symptoms we thought we had. I assured her I was having the same symptoms and wasn't pregnant either.

Then I thought more about the faint line on the morning test.

I had plans of going into Tyler and I was more and more convinced I was maybe pregnant. So I figured I'd try to find or make some cute little shirt to give to Kyle to tell him he was going to be a dad. Jumping the gun, maybe? But it'd be handy to have. I was going to make him a shirt that matched his softball jersey that said "Geaux Daddy" or "Geaux #33." But I found one in the colors of his team that already had a baseball on the front and said Daddy's Champ. Sure it's for a 12 month old, but he'll never know.

Oh, also I bought a digital pregnancy test, two pack... no line guessing this time.

Got home. I had waited about 8 hours to pee in hopes of a most accurate test. I thought my bladder was going to explode as I ran through the front door. I really thought I was going to die when I was mad at the test company for making it so hard to unwrap and open the box of tests.

I think I stared at the little hourglass symbol waiting forever. I guess I had figured digital would somehow mean results lightning fast.

"Pregnant"

Oh my goodness.

Note: You'll find out later we were wrong when we calculated the due date for ourselves. So when I say "4 Weeks 1 Day" that's what we thought. It'll change later, and we'll explain then. Until then, just roll with it...

Colorado Family

If you don't know, my husband runs a family camp in Colorado. Every summer we move up to a little camp in the mountains and we fall in love with the staff and families we get to work with all summer. That's kind of what we're up to (other than the baby building of course).

Figured we'd show off our staff, like they were our very own family. Well, because they kind of are...

This is the Family Camp family. They work with Kyle all summer, we're falling in love with them. I think they like us too.

This is the Wilderness family. They're hard core. They live in the wilderness for days at a time... I can't say I'd survive that.

Then my hubby and his boss up here at the Ute Trail. Don't they both look so happy? Colorado men have beards, it's just a fact.

Then our Sigma family. They're the 'cool' ones on camp. 17 year olds think they're amazing, and they are... but 17 year olds don't think I'm as cool for some reason...

This is the Base Camp family. These are my peeps. They make things happen: like food, fun, and functionality. All things necessary.

Then Skeet and his lovely daughter who's one of my peeps. Isn't that family love for ya?

And then all of us. We're going to have a great summer :)

Are they not wonderful? I love them, and they make me laugh, and I have weird crazy "there's not enough oxygen up here" dreams about them during the summer, and they call me Mama Hess, they call Kyle Papa Hess.

And I kind of love it.

13 Weeks

So I told you we've been working on a project to share with you guys...

Well, it's something we've been working on for about 13 Weeks...

We're more than excited (can you tell by my facial expression!) It's been hard keeping this kiddo a secret for so long and we're happy to announce that Baby Hess should be making his or her way into the world before the year's end.

Crazy? yes, we keep telling ourselves that.

Secretly we've been taking pictures and I've been blogging along the way. Now, finally we can share all the details with you guys.

I would say that the blog won't be turning into baby world, but I mean I have no idea. This blog's just about our lives and we feel like our life is about to change quite a bit (or at least that's what people tell us).

I think maybe we'll have baby updates on Mondays while we're in Colorado and camp life updates on Fridays. That's the plan, but who knows what will happen.

We announced Baby Hess on the facebook just a few days ago and the response of love and excitement was overwhelming. Good news if we fail miserably as parent, we have plenty of friends and family who seem to love this little guy (or girl) already. We love that.

For those of you wondering, I'm not quite "showing" yet, just mostly looking like I ate too many cookies and can't suck my tummy in. Still dancing like crazy at the barn dances, and gagging only when I see pulled pork...

More to come. Happy Monday. We love you guys!

High and Dry

So maybe the blog's been a little lacking lately... but we've been high and dry in more ways than one. Nope, not referring to the controversial law passed recently in the state of Colorado, but more the fast that we've been living at 8000+ feet (high) and like zero humidity (dry).

Or maybe it's that the blog has no posts.

We've been busy.

We've been...

DJ-ing, Dancing, Laughing, Tons of Pictures... And that's just one night of fun :) Oh I love camp...

But we've got more than just camp stuff planned this summer, we're working on a few other projects as well that we're excited to show off. Project in the middle of the summer? Yep, we're overachievers (said the woman whose blog hasn't had a post in two weeks...)

Love to ya from Colorado. It's officially summer, and I couldn't be more excited.
